I am a Board member and volunteer for UAF, but my role in this instance is that of an adopter. UAF and their volunteers made it possible for Scarlett to come to us, and because of their efforts, we now have a very special new family member. Volunteers bought puzzles for her, grew cat grass for her, took her for daily walks on her leash and harness and gave her extra playtime in the catio at the Rescue Ranch.Īlthough life is not always easy with Scarlett because of her pica and the special accomodations that we have had to make to "cloth-proof" her existance in our home, her stunning blue eyes and quirky personality light up our lives. UAF never gave up on Scarlett, and found unique ways to entertain her and keep her mind off of her obsession with cloth. Her snack of choice is cloth, so she eats bedding, towels, clothing, and anything else that is made of cloth that crosses her path. Scarlett has a condition known as "pica", wherein an animal eats nonedible objects. My husband and I adopted our beautiful lynx point Siamese mix, Scarlett, from UAF after she was deemed "unadoptable" by most people. UAF helps individuals find new homes for their companion animals in the event they can no longer care for them.Ĭommunity Stories 55 Stories from Volunteers, Donors & Supporters The pet must be spayed or neutered to qualify for assistance.Ĭourtesy Listing Program. United Animal Friends finds forever homes for approximately 400 cats and dogs each year. In situations where an adoptable dog is at risk of being euthanized in an overcrowded shelter when no foster home is available, we may place them in temporary boarding until a foster home becomes available. Fostering allows us to train and get to know each animal, which helps us find the perfect match for their unique personality. Most of the animals in our care live in volunteer foster homes until they are adopted. We make sure each animal is vaccinated, spayed or neutered, and given any other necessary medical treatment.
